‘Vaccinium corymbosum Brigitta Blue’ is an American blueberry, also known as blackberry. The shrub has thin branches and small fresh green leaves. The fruits are firm, light blue with a good taste. They can be picked from mid-July to mid-August. Fresh blueberries can be kept for a week and you can also freeze them. The blueberry blooms in clusters and the flower is white-cream to pink in colour. Flowering takes place in the first half of May. This plant is completely self-pollinating and requires almost no care. The berries are not very attractive to birds, but sometimes covering the plants may still be necessary. Brigitta Blue’ is a species that does well in almost all soil types. Blueberries have medicinal properties. The berry contains anthocyanin, a substance that gives the berry its blue colour. This substance has a good effect on the heart and blood vessels. The colouring can, among other things, ensure that fat accumulation in the blood vessels is reduced, thus improving the blood circulation. In addition, blueberries contain antioxidants.
